Molasses with Tahini عسل أسود بالطحينة

Notes

This is a snack/dip as well as a dessert.

In Egypt, this is eaten as breakfast or an evening meal.

As you mix the ingredients, watch the interesting patterns the dark molasses makes in the light colored tahini. Fun for kids to watch.

Rice Pudding رز باللبن

This is a popular dessert in Egypt.

Variation can include adding raisins, shredded coconuts, various nuts, or even a scoop of ice cream on top.

Belila بليلة

Notes

Belila is a popular desert in Egypt. It is also used as a breakfast, much like porridge in England.

Servings:

Preparation Time: 6 hours

Ingredients

2 cups wheat
4 tablespoons sugar
Cinnamon, coconut

Cooking Instructions

Wash wheat and put in deep pan, pour water till it covers 3/4 of the pan.
Cook on minimum for 6 hours until it becomes tender.
Sweeten with sugar and serve.
Optionally add milk, sprinkle some cinnamon and coconut on top.

Konafa is made of a very thin half cooked pastry. The closest in North America would be vermicelli or Angel hair.

Konafa can be found in some Middle Eastern groceries.

In Turkey and Greece, the name Kataifi is used for what Egyptian call Konafa, while Katayef is another different Egyptian desert.
