Molasses with Tahini عسل أسود بالطحينة

  1. Home

Notes

This is a snack/dip as well as a dessert.

In Egypt, this is eaten as breakfast or an evening meal.

As you mix the ingredients, watch the interesting patterns the dark molasses makes in the light colored tahini. Fun for kids to watch.

Servings: 1

Preparation Time: 0.25 hours

Ingredients

3 tablespoons Molasses
3 tablespoons Tahini (sesame seed paste)
1 Pita bread

Cooking Instructions

Pour the molasses in a bowl.
Stir the tahini in its container so the oil thins the clumping sesame seed paste, and it is runny.
Add the tahini over the molasses.
Using a small piece of pita bread, mix the ingredients together.
Dip bite sized pieces of the bread in the mix and enjoy ...

From Iraq

In Iraq, a very similar dish is consumed for breakfast.

Since sugar cane is not common in Iraq, molasses is substituted with date syrup, called dibis دبس, which is very similar to molasses with a different flavor.

Although the recipe calls for lemon juice in Iraq, in Egypt this is never the case.

You can find the recipe here and here.

Tahini spread

I enjoy it with a little maple syrup instead of molasses. It is delicious with whole grain pita and is a healthy snack similar to peanut butter and jelly.

Molases Mufattaqa

Wed, 2012-11-21 11:16

Greetings to all . I am looking for a good recipe for making mufattaqa , a highly nutritious and tasty spread . I recall from my early life in Egypt that a friend of my Grandmother used to make mufattaqa from molases , sesame seed , helba (fenugreek) seeds and samn baladi (buffalo milk purified butter). I would be very thankful for the recipe as my daughter loved it when she tried it in Kuwait , where it was available in some supermarkets .
