Notes

Ful Medames is the Egyptian national dish made from fava beans, and is the staple for many Egyptians.

It is eaten as a breakfast, as well as a snack or fast food sandwitches.

Since fava beans has a very hard shell, it takes a lot of time to cook it on a very low heat. It used to be done in a special utensil. See the details in vanishing ways of cooking in Egypt.

It is also spelled as Foul in English.

Servings: 4

Preparation Time: 6 hours

Ingredients

Fava Beans
Water
Oil
Lentils

Cooking Instructions

Wash the fava beans and lentils.
Place in a pot and cover with water.

Have hot water ready so you can top it if needed to stay covered in hot water.

An electric slow cooker also yields good results similar to the traditional way of cooking.
