Belila is a popular desert in Egypt. It is also used as a breakfast, much like porridge in England.Servings
Preparation Time

- 2 cups wheat
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- Cinnamon, coconut
Cooking Instructions
- Wash wheat and put in deep pan, pour water till it covers 3/4 of the pan.
- Cook on minimum for 6 hours until it becomes tender.
- Sweeten with sugar and serve.
- Optionally add milk, sprinkle some cinnamon and coconut on top.

I live in the UK and discovered that this form of wheat is called "pearl barley".
Belila is DELICIOUS!
I recently had this in Egypt--it was probably my favorite new food from there! It's really great at breakfast, and I believe the coconut offered to us was lightly toasted. I am so happy for a recipe and can't wait to make some of my own! Thank you!
